Statistics of Women’s health situation
It is reported that at least 500 children have died during the decade long conflict related violence since 1996. The true number of children killed is likely to be far higher then this figure. Nepal has been gripped by a brutal internal armed conflict between the security forces and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) rebels for the last 11 years, during which more than 13,000 people have lost their lives and many lost their relatives and business so as the child become orphan. It is estimated that since the beginning of the conflict the CPN (Maoist) have abducted tens of thousands of school children, along with their teachers, for "political education" sessions. Typically, (Maoist) cadres enter a high school and force all the students and teachers to accompany them to a remote location where hundreds of children from across the area are forcibly gathered for these sessions. . In July 2005 the International Labour Organisation (ILO) predicted that between 10,000 and 15,000 children would be displaced in Nepal during 2005 alone. A survey in 1997 estimated that there were 261,000 children working for wages in Nepal. It is estimated that at least 1 million children in Nepal are working as child labourers in difficult circumstances, often as slaves in carpet factories, brick kilns, domestic service, agriculture, plantations, construction sites, transportation industry, stone quarries, and mines and as migrant workers. It is estimated that at least 10,600 children are working as domestics in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur in valley and over 31,000 are in the 33 municipalities of Nepal. The study findings estimated that 12,000 children are trafficked every year from Nepal. The trafficking of children is a considerable problem. While accurate numbers are not available, it is estimated that 6,000 to 8,000 Nepalese girls are annually trafficked out of Nepal to India between the age of 9 and 16, which is increasing every year. A survey sponsored by the Central Social Welfare Board indicated that the population of Nepalese women and child victims of commercial sexual exploitation in Indian brothels would be around 70,000 to 100,000, of which 30% were below 18 and 40% were induced when they were below 18 years of age.
Nepal’s Health System
Being the state party of the convention on the Right of Child; on the rights of child we have a landmark to advocate freely on the rights of children. As Nepal has already signed in different child related conventions, treaty and member of the international organizations the government has the responsibility to protect every child for their right. Conventions on the Right of Child in 1989 (CRC) has clearly emphasized on four basic rights of the children as Right to live, Right to be protected, Right of Development and Right of participation. There have been a lot of efforts for ensuring the basic rights of children by the Government side and privet. But the problem in some extend has been solved but the still the effort is not enough.
During these conditions of poverty people die due to starvation, exploitation and torture by land lords, natural disasters, road mishap, long term violence and their children become destitute and orphans. They will have no one to be looked after. Even the nearest guardians don't look after them because of the same poverty or they don't want to share their burden. These children are either left to work at home and at hotels as servant or in the street as rag pickers and beggars, but what about those who have no one to look after, no food no shelter, no education, what would they become in the future? Considering all above matters TN – Team Nepal was established in December 2007 and is a non-profitable and non-government organization. TN is founded to assist the children of above categories and discriminated communities who live in the remote and hilly region of Nepal. All of such tribes are as Sunuwar, Tamang, Gurung, Magar, Thami, Damai, Rai, Lumbu, Tharu, Sarki, Kami, Pode, Danuwar etc, who are ethnic people of the village.
Our first initiative began in Shindhupalchok district where child-abuse and the trafficking of young village girls are commonly known in the world, still we do not discriminate any children who are in problem wherever they are from We will continuously expand our activities into other districts of Nepal. Despite of very limited resources; we are able to rescue children of harsh realities of this region and being sheltered, fed and educated in one of the best Community School in Talamarang V.D.C. The children are brought up in a caring and homely environment. We are very much aware about children's needs, desire and wishes and rights. Time is very competitive and hardship. So, we committed our dedications for the welfare of these children. We have afforded to make them as one of the best citizens of the country who is independent to own. Lastly, all of the foundations run with contribution of well-wishers and people having helping attitude from around the world. We cannot stay-behind without expressing gratitude to our pioneer who are dedicating on fund raising projects and encouraging us working in children welfare sector for long term in future.
